Subject: Webinar: Sea otters and kelp ecosystems
Start Date: Dec. 7, 2012
Stop Date: Dec. 11, 2012
Details:
The Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy will host a statewide webinar Tuesday, Dec. 11th at 10 a.m.
This webinar will share the results of 40 years of data used to estimate the indirect effects of sea otters on ecosystem carbon production and storage in North America. Results suggest that sea otters, by suppressing sea urchins, increase kelp ecosystem productivity and strongly influence kelp carbon storage. Project lead Christopher Wilmers will be available to answer questions.
